Palou set the quickest four-lap common of 234.217mph across the 2.5-mile oval, narrowly defeating Ed Carpenter Racing’s Rinus VeeKay.
Palou signalled his intent with a gap lap of 235.131mph, and his four-lap common was 234.217mph. “That was enjoyable, very enjoyable,” he stated on the radio.
“It means the world to me, we knew it was going to be tight, they gave the quickest automobile to me,” he stated. “Watching [the other drivers] was more durable than doing the 4 laps.”
VeeKay will begin second with a velocity of 234.211mph, simply zero.004s and zero.006mph slower than Palou.
